Our Expectations for Success! Here are our rules/expectations at Throop Elementary: 1. Be respectful 2. Be responsible 3. Be safe
Work Hard and Be Kind! FOLDERS
FISH Folder: You child’s optional, recommended homework will be in this folder each Friday. All newsletters, important notes, and other things that need to be signed and returned will be in this folder as well. Due to COVID-19, I will only be collecting and going through this folder on Fridays. If your child has had an issue at school you will find a behavior form in this folder as well.
STAR Folder: This folder will also come home on Fridays, but it is not as important to go through as the other one. This is the take home folder and will contain any fliers, worksheets, or graded papers that can be kept at home. It is still important to go through the papers to monitor your child’s progress. There may also be fliers about events or sports clinics that require you to register by a deadline so it is a good habit to check this folder weekly and empty it before sending it back to school with your child on Mondays.
CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT As you have probably already noticed, our classroom has a Dr. Seuss theme. To go along with that theme, I have created a behavior management board. There are designated spaces students must move their piece to for misbehaving. If this occurs, it is the student’s responsibility to fill out a behavior form and have it signed by a guardian. This is to take the place of filling out a daily behavior log for everyone in the class. I think it is important to focus on positive behaviors as well, so students also have an opportunity to move up on the chart occasionally for doing something outstanding. If students must move their number due to misbehavior, they will start over again at the beginning the next day if the slip is returned signed. Students with exceptional behavior may have the opportunity to earn various rewards. With this system, the main focus is on reinforcing positive behavior. Please reinforce at home that each child is responsible for his or her own behavior. Self-discipline is one of the best lessons a child can learn.
CONDUCT Throop is continuing the same system for conduct this year. All students will receive a letter grade in conduct. Any misbehavior will be documented and will affect students’ conduct grades. This will encompass your child’s behavior in all areas of the school, including at lunch and recess. There will be a point system that all teachers will use to determine conduct grades. Students will begin each 9 weeks with a new pool of points to deduct from if misbehaviors occur. The system focuses on rewarding students for being respectful, responsible, and safe school citizens.
I have also begun using something called Bloomz to award/deduct points for behaviors. Students earn points for coming to school and making good choices to help to them "bloom" their flower each week. You can view your child's progress by signing up on the Bloomz app or website. Let me know if you need the code again for your child.
